Feeling the bed shift only made Emery's crying worse, she felt she had let Damon down somehow, though she couldn't place it. Damon kept trying to pull her into his arms and Emery tried to fight him, but each time his grip got tighter. Emery couldn't leave the bed either to try and get out of his grasp, not with all the IV's and things she was hooked to. Finally accepting fate, she let her body sink into Damons arms. Replying to Damon seemed too much of a feat for her, so she just let herself cry, turning in his arms to cry into his shoulder.

It had been a few days since Emery was released from the hospital. Upon getting out, the two were swarmed like dead meat to a flock of vultures by the press. They gave them the story that she had typically bad menstrual cycles, and this one was enough to send her to the ER with all the stress of adjusting to the new life she had to live. It wouldn't be long though until word got back to her father and father-in-law, which worried her. The two had been adamant on the divorce of the young couple almost as soon as the first bad thing happened.
Emery had gotten out of the car that parked at the hotel. She wore the clothes she would normally wear before she had ever gotten married, knowing they wouldn't do much to disguise her, but they would do what they could. Avoiding Damons gaze, she got out of the car and was about to walk inside when he felt Damon grab for her hand. Emery stopped, looking down at their feet, her free arm crossed on her chest and she nodded at what he said. She felt even worse, knowing he was trying his best and that he probably didn't feel much better than herself, but she couldn't get her brain out of its foggy state of despondency.
Trying only for a second to fight back as Damon picked her up from his arms, Emery sighed harshly and then wrapped her arms around his neck as he carried her off. Her feet were settled down on the the ground and she kept her eyes on them still, only moving them when Damon had pulled her head to kiss her. Part of Emery wanted to cry and another part wanted to give Damon the same thing he was giving her. It was probably easily confused as crying when he began to speak against her lips, but it was a mix of one tear and laughter.
Deep down Emery knew she was already in love with Damon, but she could never bring herself to admit it to him or to herself. It would take a different kind of humility for her to finally face him and say it outright. Emery felt his squeeze and her red eyes looked up at him with a look of disbelief and smacked his chest. "You dare touch your princess like that?"
Listening to the roar of the ocean behind her, she slipped her shoes off and then spun on her heels, trying to ensure her hair slapped him as she spun and then stomped off to the water. Inside she could feel the pain of her lost child still tearing away at her, but she felt she had to give Damon the sense that she was okay and that he was helping. Time was the only thing she thought that would heal her aching heart.
